Questa tecnologia pu\u00f2 produrre forme complesse, facilitando le riparazioni e la manutenzione. Tuttavia, il suo utilizzo deve essere facilitato da un&#8217;adeguata sensibilizzazione del pubblico, dalla predisposizione di procedure per la produzione di componenti stampati in 3D e dalla scafi, eliche, timoni, pezzi di ricambio ecc. I materiali utilizzati possono variare da polimeri e compositi a metalli avanzati come titanio, acciaio e leghe di alluminio, ciascuno scelto in base alle prestazioni specifiche dell&#8217;applicazione e ai fattori ambientali.<\/p>\n<p>I materiali utilizzati nella produzione di componenti nautici devono essere leggeri, in grado di resistere a forti impatti senza danni, non assorbire acqua, essere naturalmente resistenti alla vegetazione marina, distribuire uniformemente il peso e possedere un certo alto grado di resistenza alla corrosione e ai raggi UV.<\/p>\n<p>Diverse tecniche di stampa 3D vengono utilizzate, FDM \u00e8 il metodo dominante mentre WAAM viene sempre pi\u00f9 utilizzato per componenti di grandi dimensioni come a esempio le eliche.<\/p>\n<p>I polimeri sono i materiali pi\u00f9 comuni per i componenti ma anche i compositi stanno diventando sempre pi\u00f9 popolari, essendo utilizzati per parti strutturali. I materiali termoplastici rinforzati con fibra di carbonio garantiscono un eccellente rapporto resistenza\/peso, perfetto per scafi e componenti ad alte prestazioni.
