Abitare il Mare: news and trends in design for yachts and boats at Seatec 2017

Carrara, February 8, 2017

The 15th edition of Seatec, the only trade show in Italy for the marine industry, to be held in Marina di Carrara from March 29 to 31, will present Abitare il Mare, thematic area dedicated to the world of design for yachts and ships.

The project, already successfully presented  in the past editions of Seatec, will be enriched this year with competitions and conferences aimed to find out and analyse news and changes in the habits  and lifestyles of this sector. The companies exhibiting in the Abitare il Mare area will present  luxury  furniture components, the most modern and advanced ones in the market, and will aim ‒ through design, technology, new materials and sustainability ‒ to a “concept” able to express the best forms of experimentation and innovation.

The big news of this year is the sponsorhip by ADI – Association for Industrial Design, both for Seatec and Abitare il Mare. The Association will organise a number of initiatives, including the awarding of a prize for the best design product. The prize will consist in the free insertion in the ADI design Index  and the resulting contextual nomination for “Il Compasso D’Oro” Award, currently the top design award worldwide.

Confirmed at Seatec prestigious awards for excellence in design and product: MYDA – Millennium Yacht Design Award presents new projects of professional designers and beginners in the field; within the jury of MYDA, for the first time there will be a Special Commission established by Quasar Design University: the winner of the project selected by the Quasar commission will be awarded a scholarship for the participation at the Master in Yacht Design, which will be held at QDU in the academic year 2017/2018, guaranteeing coverage of 50% of the participation fee due for the Master. The 2017 edition of MYDA, will also include the section “Disability on board”, featuring the theme: design and construction solutions to provide access and use of boats ‒ motor or sailing, with no size limits ‒ to disabled users. This section is in line with the topic launched by Seatec under the name of Disability on Board, which includes an exhibition area and technical meetings on the topic.

Confirmed also the traditional Qualitec Technology and Qualitec Design Awards, competitions reserved to exhibitors for technological innovation and for furniture items that best contribute to the needs of life on board. The companies participating in the thematic area Abitare il Mare will also have the opportunity to attend B2B meetings, aimed to  help them establish beneficial relationships with highly qualified buyers.

The area Wellness on Board, dedicated to the world of wellness, will finally complete the offer of the area, proposing companies and services for high quality of life on board.
